Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming a wonderful family visiting Japan from the United States.

The plan was for the whole family to wear summer kimono and enjoy a day out together.

As we talked with them, we learned that their daughter had turned 20 — the age of Coming-of-Age Day in Japan — during the pandemic, but since she was in the United States at the time, she never had the chance to celebrate with a furisode (a formal long-sleeved kimono) in Japan.

So we quickly changed the plan, from a summer kimono to a vibrant red furisode.

"Let's create the Coming-of-Age memory you missed, today" — and with that, we took commemorative photos of her in furisode.

The bright red furisode suited her beautifully, and it became a truly special day for the whole family.

Coming-of-Age Day is a celebration that can only happen once in a lifetime.
But even years later, wearing a furisode and taking photos together as a family can create a brand new memory.

We at HARAJUKU KIMONO HOUSE are so grateful to have been part of such a meaningful moment.

"We originally planned to wear summer kimono, but when we mentioned she never had her Coming-of-Age ceremony, they suggested a furisode instead. During the photo shoot, they carefully adjusted her hair and kimono — the skill and service were wonderful."

"It was a very professional and wonderful experience. They took great care with us from choosing the kimono to the photo shoot, with plenty of colors and styles to choose from. It was a hot day so we shot in the studio, which let us enjoy it comfortably. They also explained everything carefully in English, which was reassuring."

Thank you so much for your warm words.

At HARAJUKU KIMONO HOUSE, we value not just wearing a kimono, but creating a memory that is truly special to that person, on that day.

If you missed your Coming-of-Age ceremony, or never had the chance to wear a furisode while living abroad, please feel free to reach out to us.

No matter how many years have passed, the day you feel ready to celebrate in a furisode can become your own special Coming-of-Age Day.
